I'm planning on going to believe for the 1st time in June. Looking for any suggestions on places to stay (in/around Ambergris Caye), local guides, types of flies, tips/tricks, etc...
I've read that the bonefish are small enough that using an 8 wt rod with 9 wt line should be enough backbone to use. I'll tie up plenty of flies in sizes 4 thru 8. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Another vote for El Pescador. A five weight will handle those bonefish; it's the wind that will make you go heavier. Also, shots at snook, tarpon, and permit may present themselves.

El Pescador I've fished with them half a dozen times. Best guides in the island. Stay there. I prefer to use their stuff. When out Tarpin fishing I just use their Orvis Helios 2 rods and Hatch reels. I bring an 8 weight to fish bone fish from shore when I do t go out on the boats. As for bonefish flies, look at Drew Chicone's Cocaine Crutacean. The bones from shore are TOUGH. They are well educated to fisherman and the fly. They are darn fun when you lay into them. Wil Fleck with Tres Pescados Fly Shop @Belizefly is also an awesome guide. June will be the middle of the Tarpon migration in Belize. The big girls will be there. Good luck.

You can fish and stay with El Pescador or stay whereever and fish with Wil Fleck's Tres Pescados: http://belizefly.com/

There are really only two choices..>El Pescador or Wil Flack's guide shop. It really comes down to where on the island you want to stay and what your budget is. El Pes is north on the island and access anywhere is via their "boat taxis" that take you back and forth to town and the lodge. Or you can stay elsewhere, closer to town and restaurants and rent a golf cart (think of golf carts like local taxis...that's what everyone uses for transportation).

I'd look at Turneffe Flats Lodge on the Turneffe Atoll. I've been to both places and your shots at catchable fish are WAY better. I took my son for his first flats trip over thanksgiving and we roughly caught 250 bonefish in 4 days of chasing. Some fish came from wading, some came from poling in the boat. The bones are also bigger at Turneffe, 2-3 lb avg, with some 5-6lb. The snorkeling is also off the charts amazing. If you call David at Tailwaters Fly Shop in Dallas, he can usually beat the rates advertised on each companies web site. PM me if I can answer any questions. Good luck
Ps- Take plenty of white gotchas, crazy Charlie's, and Christmas Island special. Smaller sizes.
