So my local lake has a lot of deeper points and drop offs where fish are holding right now at like 25-35 feet and so I can't reach them with a deep crank very easily. What are some tips you have for that situation? (shad is primary forage)

1/2 to 3/4oz shad swim jig

At 30ft+ I'd use the 3/4oz

Get directly over them with the bow facing up current.
Cast forward, and let it fall (sometimes they'll strike on the initial fall, so be ready)
Then drift over them with the current, just gently gliding/stroking it off the bottom letting it fall on semi slack line

Heavy spoon, heavy bladed jig

Drop shot if they aren't aggressive

Lots of other ways (football jig, crig, etc), but I have more confidence in the above options.

A rig, under spin, jiggin spoon or drop shot, vertical fishishing can be very deadly in winter months if your graphs are set right to watch your bait and fish.

They are pretty much hugging the bottom with a couple scattered above them.

I would agree with the jigging spoon aswell this time of year, plus it will also catch just about any species if they are bass ypu can always start working other techniques.

this would be my approach

1- jigging spoon
2- crig 1oz or larger weight and plastic your confident in.
3- fb jig 3/4oz or larger

Try taking a zoom fluke with a lead nail shoved in and let it fall. When on bottom slightly jerk it around. I kill them on Falcon with this method.
