They are losing money. I was told it cost around $500,000 to run the park and ramp and they make around $250,000. Not good business to lose that much money.

Why would they continue if they're losing that much money?

Somebody take me fishing deep out there and teach me how to fizz a bass! Ramp and gas on my dime! I'm typically a shallow water fisherman (15ft or less) for the most part.

Even more reason for them to impose a permit fee to host tournaments there. Tournament trail or tournament director schedules in advance and pays a fee to have the tournament, then each angler also pays the standard gate fee. That could add another $600-$1000 to their take every weekend during the busy months. That's not much different from having to apply for permits with the Corps of Engineers, for those tournaments that do it by the book anyway. The Corps of Engineers requires a $75 permit fee plus a 1 million Dollar insurance policy to host a tournament at Grapevine, which is a public lake. If they are really hurting for money they need to start taking some more of the cash that's changing hand every weekend at the ramp. IMHO.

I know the 5 pound plus class of fish population has dropped.

Look at the big picture....

Take the same top 10 boats and fish the same pattern and locations over the last 4 years.

If you could draw a linear graph showing fish above 5 pounds the graph would be at its lowest point this 16-17 season.

There are groups of better fish still left, just a lot less to go around.

The

Too many foreigners hunting tilapia and throwing nets in spawning areas.

Lake is doomed.

Guys, I had buddies that poached that lake before it opened to the public. They told me stories of 5 and 6 pounders fighting over spinnerbaits.

Once it opened to the public, the fish freaked out, and with the clear water, either you used live bait, or you got skunked.

I personally have caught over 100 lbs. of bass, just launching a float tube and fishing the cove at the launch.Got broke off 3 times.

The fish are there, tournaments may make the fish more skittish, but just to prove THEY ARE THERE... use some live bait. The 100+ lbs. I caught were on Tequila Sunrise Power Worms.

I'm sure the fish are there for those that know how.

Probably the economic impact anglers have to Glen Rose having the lake open is for the greater good, lodging, food etc.

Simple, investment in community outreach and their commitment to cause programs. That lake is a resource for many.
