My Evinrude 30 horse that is only 18 months old will go into safe mode frequently. I only have to let it go back to idle for a few seconds, then it will go to WOT again so it's not getting hot. This problem only happens when I'm running at less than WOT or at mid range throttle. I think this kind of intermittent problem is difficult for a mechanic to fix. I've had it in the shop twice w/o resolving the problem but it's annoying and could put me in a bad spot if I got caught out in big waves. The impeller was changed out but like I said the motor isn't getting hot. It's been put on the computer but other than showing that it goes to safe mode it doesn't indicate the problem. I'd like to be able to help point the mechanic in the right direction. Does anyone out there have a clue?
