Having reached old age and a lot of the things that go with it, such as losing my hearing, I am wondering if a Sound Bar for my TV would improve my ability to understand what I'm listening to? They come with sub-woofers and remote speakers, so I'm thinking it might help.

Does anyone have one? Do they improve the sound? Would it help me hear and understand better?

An old man wants to know. Any advice or help is appreciated.

I just bought one.

I am ancient, but I hear OK for a pilot. My issue is the noise from the pellet stove. It covers the sound from the tv. The soundbar definitely helps. Mine has a "clear" setting. That does make voices easier to understand.

I think you will be pleased.

i use a home theater stereo 5.1 with the powered sub woofer in the living room, yeah it rocks and is more versatile, just make sure its the powered sub over a passive sub, also check out the bose solo 15 for a sit under the tv model

Yeah. They sound good. Adjustable for sound types, music, movie, speech ect.... Sub woofer give you that movie theatre type sound. Go to Best Buy. Real good prices I saw this year. Sound bar and cordless sub $ 125 or less.

Definitive Technology for mine. BOught it with a wireless subwoofer included. I also ordered a shelf speaker that is wireless that will get the sound closer to where I sit in the living room. I have high frequency loss from working on the flight line when I was USAF. I got some audeo-S phonak hearing aids programmed to bring back my high frequencies. They helped a ton. I could have gotten a bluetooth add-on for them but didn't.

I suggest you get your hearing checked and look into some of the new technology hearing aids. They are really awesome.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I have had hearing checked and have 80% loss in left ear (due to a dove hunting trip (long story) and 45 radiation treatments) as well as just getting older. Right ear is a little better.

Biggest problem is when in a crowd of people. I can pick out certain tones but overall hearing is not good. I really have a tough time at church now. Trying to talk them into getting head phones like they have at theaters now.

Having been married to my first wife for 52 years now, there are some advantages to not hearing! LOL!

Yes, I understand. If you buy some, opt for the "wife discriminator" switch. It will mute the volume when their frequency is heard.

I have the same problem for the same reason. I have a sound bar and its works
pretty good if you are strait in front of it. I got a wireless head phone and it
works real good. In fact I have it in the Family room and the bed room. You might
try it.
