What are y'alls thoughts on monofilament vs. Fluorocarbon for vertical jigging? Also, do y'all use a leader or no leader? How much in line sensitivity, if any, is lost using a barrel swivel above the leader?
"But God demonstrates His own for love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)

Mono is fine unless it's super clear water, then use fluro, and leaders are not necessary.

If your after sensitivity, use braid, then a fluro leader If you use this for awhile then pick up a rod with mono, it will feel like your fishing with a rubber band Some use a barrel swivel, I don't and haven't seen a need myself

If it was easy, everyone would do it

i use 30 lb power pro "slick" Hi Vis Yellow braid (8 lb diameter) and love it! the reason for 30 lb is its a bit thicker and keeps the line from cutting into its self on the spool.then a very small swivel and about 12"leader of 12 lb mono...i dont care for fluro as it is too brittle. braid is good for over a year, then you can reverse it and get another year. great stuff.

I use 20 pound Braid in Power Pro Super Slick in High Vis Green. I use an 8 pound Flourocarbon Leader. Fluorocarbon Sinks. I use that Vanish. When you tie on a jig wet your line before you close your knot or it will break. It burns easy, so wet it with some saliva. I do not use a swivel. Works Great Last long time. Like anything with fishing it is a personal preference. Good Luck! Tight Lines.

I don't think the fluorocarbon leader is necessary in most of our lakes, but I like that it is easier to re-tie if I want to switch jigs.

Everyone will have their own opinion so.... Don`t do this .Experiment with different combo`s for youself then draw your own conclusion what you like and what feel right to you.

The floro is to brittle for my liking. JMHO. You do need to try different setups. Good luck, and tight lines.

If I am vertical fishing you will find 10lb high vis braid on my rod. Sometimes I use a mono leader and sometimes I do not. Braid will detect bites you will never feel with mono. I can also straighten out a jig hook when I get hung up. I only use fluorocarbon when fishing clear creeks.

try the Berkely cold weather line,. its great!!! strong, has a little stretch, limp, low memory, easy to tie ., thin diameter, cheap price.. I wish I found this line years ago.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

10# Stren mono for 20 years now. It's easy to find and strong. Never felt like I missed and fish using mono over braid.
