My son and I are planning a fishing trip in April to Toledo Bend. This will be our first trip to TBend. Can anyone give us any infomation they think we may need? We are looking at tent camping at Alpine Marina...and are hoping to catch fish without having to travel miles up..or down the lake. We will go mostly for bass but will try the catfish midday.
Does anyone know of a really good campground? Any information about Alpine Marina?...We would appreciate any info you can give....
We are also planning a May Lake Tawakoni trip...Last May we stayed Tawakoni State Park and slaughtered the stripers over the humps close to the Dam....It was a blast...
Thanks,
Skeeter9095

I remember hearing good things about Alpine Marina. Here's a website link if you haven't found it yet:

If I remember correctly, Alpine sits on or near the Palo Gaucho Bay, which is reported to have some good bass fishing. You will probably be hitting it at the right time.

I just made a trip up there Tuesday and Wednesday (I went to the Six Mile area - about 20 miles south of where you are going). It seems that the fish haven't moved up shallow yet, but did pull out a nice 3 1/2 LMB full of eggs. I was told locally that the catfishing was going great, but didn't try it.

For equipment, a lot of people suggest red rat-l-traps, but I have had the best luck on Texas rigging a watermelon or pumpkin powerbait worm.

Here's another link that you can use to check out other marinas and campgrounds:

I stay at Alpine when ever I am at T-Bend. There is a boat ramp right there that feeds into a large creek named Palo Gaucho.
There is enough Bass fishing to last a week in Palo Gaucho but you really should check out other areas while you are there. I suggest you get a south end Toledo map and scope it out. Areas I like are Six Mile, Housen, Indian mounds, and Sandy Creek. There is a good boat ramp on Six Mile and one on Indian Mounds that will give you access to all. If you need any more info let me know.
