I ran across an idea that could be fun for this forum.
Anyone interested in joining in a fly swap - reply by saying you are in. On December 20th I'll pair up names. Those two people then send each other a hand-tied fly (or a purchased fly if necessary due to time or other limitations).
If you will, once you know the name of your partner, contact them by PM to get their mailing address. We don't want to put that level of information out in the public domain, and I would not have time to gather and distribute that information, so it will be on each of you for that.
If you are in the game, be sure to keep an eye on your PM box, something I am woefully bad about no doing myself...
Mail the fly by the 21st in a padded envelope and it will have a chance of arriving by Christmas - or hopefully it will since that will be 3 business days ahead.
This thread started on the fly fishing forum and moved here by way of receiving good advice. Those of you that responded on that thread will be included, but it wouldn't hurt to be sure by responding to this one as well.
Happy fly swapping!
Lloyd
Ps - if this turns out to be popular and not a dud then maybe we'll do it a couple three times a year just for kicks.

I'm in.
Everyone. Make sure that you send your flies in a padded envelope and INCLUDE a self addressed stamped padded envelope folded up inside with the fly so that Llyod can send you your swapped flies back. We don't want him to incur extra costs for envelopes! The way it will work is that the flys are sent directly from person to person, not to me. I'd like that, I could try them all out for a few weeks first, but...each person will send directly to their paired up name.

I'm in, sounds like a great idea!
Early on I decided that fishing would be my way of looking at the world. First it taught me to look at rivers. Lately is has been teaching me how to look at people, myself included. - Thomas McGuane

Are we talking tying and sending a single fly, multiples of a single pattern or singles of multiple patterns? Since it doesn't cost any more to mail a few flies than it does a single fly, I would prefer one of the multiple fly options.

I agree, I think doing something like a half dozen of a pattern or a mix of a couple would be more worth it than mailing a single fly.

I agree, I think doing something like a half dozen of a pattern or a mix of a couple would be more worth it than mailing a single fly. Once you get hooked up with your swap partner by PM, you can mutually agree on any number of flys, or types of flys, or any other parameters the two of you prefer. That way it isn't one size (or one fly) fits all...
