So what is the big deal about these things you can still buy wiggle warts at the store. I've seen guys in the classifieds sell or try to sell these old baits for close to 200 bucks for 12 so let me know the scoop.

Pre-Rapala? You mean the Storm Lure Wiggle Wart? I worked for Storm Lures in the early 80's while going to OU. I've read they are available on Ebay for $25-$35.
The comments above are right on target. They're magical.

Just went to eBay to look around. They have a lot of, so-called, pre-Repala Wiggle Warts, and the pricing is not as bad as I had heard. I even saw several pics of the lures in what appeared to be the original packaging. Damn... brings back a lot of fond memories of that place in Goldsby, OK.

The comments above are right on target. They're magical. They are still called Storm Wiggle Warts. The ones you made while at OU are the real deal, but the imperfections of them are what everyone wants. The Rapala and later Storm Wiggle Warts are too perfect. They run true right out of the box. The old ones are impossible to keep in tune. You constantly have to tweek them. If they hit anything, and they will, because they run around ten feet deep, they take off in any direction they want. This is the "hunting" action talked about. Look for "wiggle wart" stamped on the bottom of the bill. The new ones say Storm. I was told Brad's Wigglers use the original molds.

Not sure but think I heard the the original Warts now sold are the same mold and plastic as the old ones? I have good luck with the new ones I bought a few years ago but the plastic is definitely not the same as the old ones.
