A pair of bald eagles lost their nest due to the new pump station being installed at Cedar Creek - one landed close to me on Tuesday and got this picture - thought it was cool: Crazy how big they are

I saw a bald eagle today too but I didn't get a picture. It was at least 50 miles from the nearest water. They are big but golden eagles seem to be much bigger. I saw one last week and mistook it for an airplane at first.

I see them on Rayburn quite a bit. I've never seen a golden Eagle. My guess they don't get this far south.
Thanks, Billy

Excluding polar environments, latitude is not a barrier for golden eagles. Mexico has a golden eagle on their flag. They are an open-country bird though, so they are exclusively a western species in North America. In Texas, you will only see them in the west and in the panhandle.

Not sure who all reads these (hint to owners), but what about a forum for pictures/stories taken while fishing? I know this is a fishing website, but "sometimes" i don't catch fish and get pictures like this and the off topic section is a bit schizophrenic at best - just a thought/suggestion... and yes Golden Eagles can be larger than Bald Eagles...and so are ostriches, but I did not see one...

golden and bald eagles are relatively the same size, the difference is between male and female, males get to around 6 ft, females to about 7.5 to 8 ft, the mature golden female wingtip feathers i have are 2 ft+ in length themselves, my tail feathers are are just over a foot, i'm partial to the golden but i do want to get the immature bald eagle feathers, the marbling is beautiful on the immature bald

so yes, i am honored to have and display my eagle feathers, i will take one to my grave and it will carry my spirit to the one God in heaven
