When did TP&W start calling Hybrids Palmetto Bass? I looked up the stocking reports and thats what they call them now. Is this new or am I missing something.

Hey BigDad, from what i've read, a palmetto bass is a cross between a female striped bass and a male white bass as opposed to the more common cross of a male striped bass and a female white bass. What the advantage of this is i don't know, perhaps higher egg yield.

Just looked it up, a White Bass female X Striper male is called a Sunshine Bass. Palmetto typically grows larger than the Sunshine Bass. From the looks of it, those names have been around for years just not commonly used.

Lake Buchanan received 500,000 Sunshine bass in 2006. I'm looing forward to fishing Buchanan...when the lake level comes up a little.

Can you tell the difference between a sunshine and palmetto, I would assume not since everyone calls them hybrids.

I like the term. I don't like hybrid since it is fairly ambiguous. I hate wiper since that is what I flush when I am done.

I don't really know what to type here.

exotic? sounds like some kind of floor cleaner or wood used to make golf clubs or something.
