I compare Baitcasting to throwing Darts or Pitching (Baseball). Since I play both sports, It's allot easier to hit the spot between the two rocks.. or hitting that log sticking up out of the water. I'm just more accurate with my right hand. Casting lefty, to me, is like trying to cast with my left foot. Although it is the "incorrect"way, when it comes down to it... Its all about putting that Texas rigged plastic in the sweet spot and hook'n that 10 pounder...=)

still though...why do you reel RH? (this is more of a rhetorical question)
more Zebco's should be made LH...
(I learned on spinning gear is why I prefer LH reels, I have almost never used a zebco)

When i was young my dad used an old Mitchell spinning outfit (for trout) and i had a Zebco 33. His was lefty and mine was righty. I could not for the life of me reel his spinning outfit with my left hand. Now all of my reels are left hand, and i am very uncomfortable reeling with my right hand. Also the new Zebcos can be swithced to either right or left. All of my boys started reeling with their right and have since changed over to their left (I assume to be like dad) and do much better without having to change hands. So I geuss for me it was just a coordination thing.

I always wondered why the baitcasting reels were for years almost only made with the handles on the right. Being left handed it worked perfect for me though, as I much prefer to cast and fight the fish left-handed and with the handle on the right I never had to switch hands after the cast. But I could not figure out why the handles were on the right in the first place considering that 90% of the population is right handed.

Its pretty hard to find a used LH baitcaster so that just tells me how many ppl used RH. For me, I cast with my right arm because my right arm understands english, and my left arm understands spanish. I speak english so my left hand never does what I tell it to do. Besides, being right handed, I throw like a girl with my left hand. We can't have that now. I'm sure most of us throw funny with the other hand, unless you are ambidextrious.
I don't really know what to type here.

I gotta agree here...I'm left handed and always felt that "right handed" reels are actually made for left handed people. I cast with my left, though I can cast equally bad with either hand, and reel with my right hand. Same with spining reels.....handle is on the right for me. Maybe the maker of the first reels made was left handed? Also baffling to me is that right handed people will use a baitcaster that reels in on the right side, but spinning reels with handle on the left side! Make up your mind right handers!

I have three baitcasters and they are all left hand reel. (I am right handed)
FYI, RH fly fishing equipment and spinning equipment is LH reel.
I guess your question should be, "Why do manufacturers make RH baitcasters RH reel?"

I cast and reel baitcasters right handed, spinning reels I cast right and reel left. The reason is that is the way I learned how.I started with a right hand closed faced spinning reel and then bought my first Ambassador. I use left handed spinning reels more than baitcasters now and still find it awkward to reel left handed although I have been doing it for 40 years.

I have notice that a lot of the pros fish with right hand reel baitcasters and left hand reel spin cast, like Bill Dance and KVD. I thought that was wierd. I am right handed, and I use right hand reel everything, feels natural to me.

COMFORT! That's all, plain and simple. I comfortable casting left and reeling right. I can also cast right and reel right. I can not reel left. Here's something more strange...I CAN NOT set the hook right handed! Absolutley no power. But I can set the hook on a spinning reel right handed. Again it boils down to what is comfortable to what I can do. Why manufacturers call them left or right handed is just in how you reel them not how you throw them.

About the only time I EVER set the hook using my right hand using a baitcaster is if I'm using punchbait and have a fish that's bein' sneaky and I need a little more sensitivity (right hand is a bit better)...but then it's just a quick flick. I don't have any power setting right handed, except w/ a spinning reel. However, I CANNOT reel a spinning reel with my right hand...WAY too awkward, and the same is true for reeling a baitcaster with my left hand.
No fish is too good for the grease.

comfort is right. I am RH and use my left to set the hook(which is a rareity) even on spinning outfits.
Thanks,

I'm right handed and I don't trust left handed people. I cast RH and reel RH because I don't want people to think I'm some shady southpaw...I'm also 6'8" and I don't trust short people - that's why I stand while I fish, because I don't want people to think I'm short.
(needless to say, i'm joking)
