Anyone ever catfish on Benbrook? I will be taking my son this year (7 years old) and would like some tips on location, bait, depth. I'm not asking for honey holes, just somewhere that I will have a decent chance of putting him on the fish. I figure all it will take is one time of him catching a mess of fish to get the fever. Everyone on this board knows what I am talking about. Any help would be appreciated.

All the time. Go to my website Benbrook Lake. Zoom in and look to the right (northeast). I've marked a couple of my good bank spots. Watch for poison ivy. I got it bad last spring out there. If you're after kitties, then I would use cut bait or maybe even some stink bait in that little cove. Haven't made it out there for awhile, but I rarely leave empty handed. You might also catch some hybrids with the cut bait. If you're after monster cats, then go to the pump station up north of the cove. Use live perch in that area. If you have a boat check out the marker at the south end of the lake. Now would be a good time to see if'n they're biting. It's all mapped out and easy to find.

Uncle Dewey - in Richardson Slough the norther bank is pretty shallow, isn't it? Are you talking more out towards the trees sticking out of the water where it's deeper or in the shallows close to the bank? I love you maps by the way. I fish mainly on Benbrook and have that map saved to my computer. Lots of good information. I appreciate that there are people like you that take the time to put something like that together for those of us that don't get out much.
Brazos B - I appreciate the advice, as usual!

As you go back in there it does get shallow & stumpy. I really didn't mark up Richardson slough (RS) because I've caught just about everything back in there including a mess of cats. Decided to let others mark it up more complete. I had the best luck catching cats in the left part of RS. Yep u can go back in there and catch blues & channels best bait is cut shad. If I had a boat, right now I would first motor up (slow watching out) towards the Trinity entrance to the lake (southwest corner-Holiday Park area). Up in there in two feet of water with cut shad you should be able to hurt the blues. Keep the bait off the bottom. Check out Tiny's website for rigging info. If that doesn't produce in 30 minutes I would next try the creek inlets south of Rocky Creek. If I got blanked in both places then I'd try the dam area. Both of those south areas should start heating up here in the next couple of weeks (especially if we get some good rains). Thanks for the kudos and also help a fisherman.
