So I just sat down to eat and a guy comes up to me and says do you drive a grey Tundra? Yep I do. Well I just backed into you.

Guy could of drove away and noone would of known the difference. There is a vey smal gouge, not a dent, its like a insignificant amount of material was removed. The gouged area is still the same color of the bumper so it isnt easily noticeable, but the bumper on the side he hit is pushed in.

Here is my dilema. Not long after I got the truck I rubbed a metal panel fence, barely. It left no dent but there was some paint transfer. It was very small so ive decided to live with the idiot mark instead of repairing.

I know when I go to the shop with this issue they are most likely going to say 1800 bucks, new bumper, to fix. Am I wrong to let the offender incur the cost of a new bumper for a bumper that had damage to begin with?

so speaking from some recent experience his adjuster will account for the previous damage and lower the settlement accordingly. You generally have to take it to one of their partners to be looked at even if you use someone else for the repair.

no, not if his damage would've resulted in a new bumper anyways

a bumper costs what a bumper costs

now, if the fix for his damage is a very cheap... I wouldn't even get insurance involved

Had a similar situation. I told they lady don't worry about it and went our separate ways. But it was my truck. Probably would be different if it was my Mustang.

No, I don't think so. It just so happens the repairs from him hitting your truck will also fix the previous mistake.

Ok.....so now im getting nervous. Went to the shop the guy said he would appreciate me getting an estimate from instead of the dealership. It is a very reputable shop here in town. They said the bumpers had end panels so I would only need one end panel but a metal support bracket was bent that would also neep replacing. It also appeared that the bumper being pushed in looked to stop short of damaging the rear quarter panel but they wouldnt know until the bumper came off. If it was just the bumper damage cost would be 750.

Called the guy and he said there is probably more so he would just get insurance involved. Asked him if he was sure and told him we could always take the bumper off and see before that. Guy said nope thats what its there for. His deductible has to be 500 so who gets insurance involved over 280. I have a pic of the guys ins card but I have a feeling i'm about to get the wasnt me routine.

On a plus note I showed the shop the paint transfer thing and they said thats nothing. Rubbed some paint thinner on it and problem fixed.

don't do a thing till the insurance co. calls you and sends an appraiser out or tells you to just fix it, then get it in writing before any work is done.

an email from the ins. should suffice, just be sure it is really them.

My wife backed into someone's car a while, back and left a note. That's fine. What wasn't fine was when that person tried to have other things fixed which were not done by my wife. We got that corrected right away. With a bumper, that's different. If it has to be rep, aced, that's just the way it goes.

With my wife's example, the shop figured out real quick that not all of that ladies claims were true. Sometimes people will try to screw you over for doing the right thing. That's just the way baseball go.

Yup. If they could just fix what he did, fine. But what he did requires the whole to to be replaced it doesn't matter if the previous damage was patched up with tinfoil and duct tape.

that's why I told the lady don't worry about it. a lot of headache for a ding. And it will show up if you go trade it in. And probably be used against the $$$$.
