I have a young man that I have been taking fishing for a few years now and he just entered high school only to find out that the school canceled the fishing club due to lack of sponsor (a teacher to do it) , any way I am wanting to get this kid into some high school fishing tourneys but I am not sure how he can register if he isn't on a high school fishing team. Seems like I read somewhere on The FLW site you can register a club if there are a min of two members, I know I'm asking a little late for this year but if I could even set him up with a few tournaments to look forward to for next year that would be great. I hope y'all don't mind the dumb questions that I could prob answer myself with more research.

Matt, couple of things, he can fish with a neighboring School if they would let him. Also he doesn't have to be a school team per say. He can get a buddy and fish events as a independent type team. For instance, there is one called Bayou Bassin, that i believe is just some kids from an area that wanted to fish. The only thing is someone would need to sign off saying they are passing. That could be a parent or whomever, just be known that we ,THSBA may ask for proof of passing if any questions. We have homeschooled students that fish under the same guidelines.
What school does he attend currently?

There are a number of ways to get him fishing High School Trails. Being the school he attends no longer has a team. I am sure there are a couple of other students there, that are now also without a team. If there is an adult parent that is willing to be the sponsor than you can form your own team. It will be an after school type program. Or if there is a club in your area that has a youth program that fishes High School Trails he can join that club. You will still need to be members of SAF (Student Angler Federation), but that is the easy part and as Ken stated you may be required to provide proof of passing grades. CTHSTT has a couple of teams fishing its Trail that have been formed outside the school by parents and students interested in fishing High School Tournaments but did not have a program at their school. Good luck and hope this helps to get this young man fishing.
