I have a club tourney on Austin the 10th & 11th and doesn't look like I'll get to pre-fish it this weekend due to the weather. So, has anyone been on it lately to give a decent report??

I haven't been there in over a year. However, I do read the reports for LA. From what I've seen, that lake is struggling. I haven't seen very many positive reports at all. If I were you, I'd tie on a finesse jig and skip docks until your arms go numb. You can probably get a decent limit that way.

Some say the lake is struggling and it may not be what it once was but I can tell you for sure it is not dead. Several fish over 10 have been caught in the last year including one over 12. The last 3 times I fished it, my best 5 were in the teens. It has taken 15-16 + during the few Sunday morning tourneys (5 hours) that are held there. It all comes down to the all mighty dollar and the pressure those that do have the bucks place on the local government. This lake is known as one of the most prolific pleasure boat lakes in the state. A very high percentage of those that live on and use the lake probably don't even own a fishing rod. Hence the reason why the grass carp were introduced to kill all the grass/habitat. The main reason that many refuse to fish it during the warmer months are the wake boats, which basically take over the lake. The only fishing really possible is at night and of course during the winter on colder days which keeps the damn wake boats at the dock! Austin department of parks is reasonable for the lake and rarely patrol it to keep the idiots from swamping everyone else on the lake, which I have experienced. I have spoken to them personally and they said they don't have enough people to be effective. But again don't rule this lake out because it has little pressure and the fish are still there.

It's had a terrible year, and don't let anybody convince you otherwise. Several tournaments have taken less than 10 lbs to win. However, December can be a good month out there. I would fish docks slow and get upon some break waters with a hard jerkbait. good luck!

the main habitat is gone and the lake will continue to go downhill. Enjoy the lake pleasure boaters because soon that is all it will be good for. Big bass like grass. You get rid of that and you just have another less than average lake. Sure you can catch an occasional bass but nothing like in its hay day. Thanks again TPWD for bowing to the pressure.
