How many people hunt within 800 yards of houses? You might see dogs if that's the case.

Usually a round of #8 shot at 40 yards will break a dogs bad habits. I'm on the fence with this guy killing those two. It does not say if it was the first time they were there. If they were habitual offenders, they more than likely were chasing the deer at some point. I have given dogs a hot piece of lead a few times for chasing my cattle, and yes they had collars. One instance my dog was running with the neighbors dog and they all got it. I have no issues with dogs being shot if it's justified.

Easy fix to this conversation is to keep your damn dog where it belongs and not let it get out.

I will free range my chickens. My flock size will range from 6-8 birds to near 50. Been a while since I've had a large flock though and presently only have 12.

A few years ago my flock was out of their pen and as I came in from an errand saw a pile of feathers off the side of my drive. Didn't think too much of it as I do have predator issues from time to time. Well the next day same thing. The next day I kept my fowl in their yard and had put my Ruger 10/22 by the back door. About noon I walk out and a large tan dog running around the chicken yard fence barking. I decided against the .22LR and grabbed my .270 and as I walked out this dog started out through the woods and I put it down cleanly.

This dog was a collared dog. It was a big black mouthed cur dog, one of the bigger cur dogs I have seen. I hauled the carcass out into a clear cut.

Am I a bad/immoral guy for this?

Now, I've also had a dog killed by a hunter many years ago (mid 1980's). Was squirrel hunting on the land I grew up on with a friend (we were still hunting a half a mile apart). Unfortunately the house pet, a beagle, followed us back to the hunting woods and got on a rabbit trail, crossed the fence by 50-75 yards and while baying/trailing a squirrel hunter over there shot the dog. If I coulda found that guy that day I might have shot him. I was going to hunt him. (My buddy showed up and talked me down). I was livid and stood at our fence line screaming obscenities and threats at the guy. I found out a year later who it was. Never ran into him but I slipped into their camp a few of times and left written explicit threats, not signed, but called him a house dog killin' POS among other things. Never saw them anywhere near our fence for years.

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.

I see a boxer and a pit bull about once a week on my stand. They [censored] in the food plot then move along. I've seen deer in the food plot 5 minutes later. I had a beagle follow me to a different stand once. He was super cool, so I just brought him in the tent blind with me and petted him until he got hungry and went back to his house across the road.

My grandpa shot his own dog for running the neighbor's chickens .
I have had many opportunities to shoot dogs, and had no choice but to do it once.
I can see both sides here, but This story doesn't add up
They confronted the man at his deer stand? That is trespassing unless it is public land. They would not have gotten to my blind unless they were very aggressive, It could get ugly.
The guy offered to buy new dogs.. he knew he was in the wrong. Something was shady there.

Woke up this morning
Got yourself a gun....

This would tick me off because it messes up the hunt but they wouldn't be harmed. Those repeat offenders would feel the sting of a bb where the sun don't shine...

I've lost count a long time ago on how many dogs I've seen while hunting. I don't shoot on sight. Although cityboy Dan thinks that's the case.

We moved to Glen Rose 3 weeks ago. My Aussie has already brought a chicken home, fortunately unhurt. I asked the neighbor first, what do I owe you? Second, if I needed to shoot the dog? She declined both accounts and thanked us for the phone call. However, the gate stays shut now and no more problems to this point. Not so much country vs. city living. More about all around respect. Just my 2cents

Don't complain about your dogs being shot if you can't keep them on your property

Unfamiliar dogs don't live long on ranches I've visited
