Need help knowing what to look for when hunting the big blues on Tawakani. I have been on the lake a few times channel cat fishing. But have seen all the pics and stuff on the blues and want to try my hand at it. I have no clue as to what kind of structure to look for such as a timber,Humps, etc where they hang out. Any help would be appreciated much. Going day after Christmas for a few days. Please if you say in a certain part of lake i am a novice on the lake and don't know the names of the creeks or where Trump creek would be if there was one lol I will have to use a map. Will be staying in the State Park. I do know where the bridge, and dam are though lol.

You picked a good time to come to tawakoni... I suggest you bring bait as a back-up for shad as they get hard to find in winter (throw nets at first light around boat ramps or docks/slips). Blues will eat cut carp and buffalo ( you can buy buffalo at fiesta food stores) and chicken breast. In winter, blues can be at any depth. During the first cabelas tournament, winning stringers came from less than 10 feet of water and they were anchored and fishng near timber while most were drifting deep water near the dam You cover more water when you drift... Tall man reach, black point, finger point, flats southeast of wolf cove are good places to start
Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

Thank your Sir i appreciate your advice and will use it. I don't know the lake good enough to know where the spots your talking about are located. Is there a map i can get that has the names of the places you mentioned that you know of. I think i know where Wolfe Creek is and i do know where the Dam is. Not real sure on Wolfe Creek. Would be South Side of lake? About half way from Park to Dam on the right pretty big opening into it? Again thanks to you. I have caught so many channel Cat in my life but the biggest fish i have ever caught was 12lb. and that was a Bass lol

Still can't post photos from the iPad. Google lake tawakoni fishing maps. First one that popped up for me is the best free map I have seen.

What's the water temp at Tawakoni? I have a week off in a couple more weeks and was planning on spending it at Shoestring Farms.
