Did they give you a master key to over-ride the electronics? Usually access is on the inside/

Is there a slide that comes out the bottom of the key pad?

Look on the bottom of the dial. There should be a screw holding a cap on. Take out the screw pull down the cap and the battery is inside. I believe that model Winchester safe uses a 9 volt battery.
You can go to winchestersafes.com and it will show you how to change it.
You never have to have a key override to change a battery in an electronic lock.

Did any directions come with safe? I have a Cannon with instructions.

Outside of keypad on bottom there is a small door that slides. 9 volt battery inside. The lock holds your passcode just fine when you change the battery. My keypad was burning through batteries at record pace. Called the Winchester shop in Mansfield and had a new keypad shipped to my house for $50. Changing it was easy.

Got it! It slides up and dangles but allows you to get the 9v battery out and changed. There's like six types of pads used on those safes. I caught it this time early. Scared the carp out of me first time it died. Buddy changed it last time.
