I am wondering, for those who own these reels, what your opinion of the 100 verses the 50mg is. I ask as I got a gift certificate for the Sportsmans Warehouse where I live that's just begging to be spent on a new reel...:) I have the 51MG already so I'm curious as to opinions on the 100MG.
thanks...

I would have to say go with the 5OMG you cant go wrong I love everything about this reel!!! There is nothing that I have yet to find wrong with it!!!
But I think it all depends on what you will be using it for!!! If you are going to use it for TX rig or Jig or Weightless worm then I would say go with the 50 if you are going to use it for Carolina Rig or Crankbaits or Spinnerbaits I would go with the 100!!!
My two cents!!!
can't catch fish if you arent at the lake...go fish!!!

I find it very hard to use a bigger reel now that I have a 50Mg. I have now sold all my 200 size Curados and replaced them with 100's

I have the Chronarch 101's and the MG 51's and both are great. I put the 101 on med/hvy or hvy action rods and the 51's on my lighter equip. Another great reel is the TE Calcutta. Go to a store where you can put them on a rod and get the feel of each, then choose the one that fits you the best.

I like the smaller reels as well. They give you a better feel of whats on the end of your line. I've used my 50 mg's for cranks, carolina rigs and spinnerbaits and they performed excellent. But its just a matter of opinion. Some people think the smaller reel doesn't hold enough line, but I've never had a cast or a fish take all of my line using the 50's.

i perfer the 100mg fits my big hand better i had a 50mg traded for 100mg now i have 5 /100mg the 50 was a different feel from the 100 spin free / the gold models were bullet proof /the gold reels were what i started with // the 100mg is just a little smoother and lighter //seeing how you cant get the gold reel anymore //i would watch e-bay //sometimes southwest parts has a few for sale// i would rather buy from shane or paul at southwest they stand behind their product/ i have been burned on ebay on several occasionns

I got to try an ABU-Garcia Revo STX today on Lake Fork and could not believe this reel! $50-$70 cheaper than your Chronarch's, 11-ball bearings, very light weight and I could cast a 2-1/2" crankbait on 20-lb. test 40-50 yards easily with absolutely no effort at all. Unbelievable! I will be making another investment it appears!

This is a modified repost of a post that I made last year.
Over the past year, and half or so I've purchased five of the new Chronarch models. Specifically I purchased:
2 Chronarch 50MGs
1 Chronarch 100BPV
2 Chronarch 100BSV
My thoughts on these three models are that the 50MGs are wonderfully light, cast with the greatest of ease and are just a complete joy to use.
The new Chronarch 100s are quite a bit heavier than the 50MGs. They are however even smoother and feel even better in my hand than the 50MGs. I also think that they cast better. I got the BPV for a crankbait rod. I believe that the slower speed of the BPV leaves the bait in front of the fish a bit longer, and I think that this helps produce somewhat more strikes. I got the BSV for its larger line capacity so that I could use 17# to 25# test line on it an still have a good amount of line capacity. I like to use it for fishing Texas rigged plastics.
The Chronarch 100Bs are just amazingly smooth. Once I got them dialed in as far as brakes, and casting drag they have preformed like complete champs in that I've had very few backlashes with them. They are just superb reels.
The 50MGs are excellent reels as well, but they don't have as solid a feel to them as the 100Bs. The 50MGs feel somewhat 'hollow' when your reel them. It's not a bad feeling, but it's not the solid feeling that you have with a Calcutta, or a Abu Mörrum or other machined aluminum billet reel, nor is it a solid feeling as its big brothers the Chronarch 100Bs. That said, it more than makes up for its hollow feel with its amazing lightness. At only 5.9 ounces. The Daiwa Pixy is only one other baitcasting reel that is available to the American market that is substantially lighter, and then it is only 0.2 ounces lighter at 5.7 ounces, and then only as a 'grey market' reel.(Well the Steez is now about 0.2 ounces lighter than the 50MG.) When paired with a sub-four ounce rod the 50MG is truly phenomenal. Casting is effortless, and there is no fatigue in fishing for many hours at a time. The sensitivity is just startling. With a high quality graphite rod, and fluorocarbon line the feel that you have of the lures contact with objects in the lake etc. is without compare.
To sum up:
All three of the models of the new Chronarchs are just the cat's PJs. I can only assume that the fourth model the Chronarch 100B is also phenomenal given the performance of my BPV, and BSV.
By the by, just playing with them in the showroom does NOT do the new Chronarchs justice. You'll need to cast and reel them to truly discover the goodness of these reels.

Well a new Chronarch 101 follwed me home today....:) So the next question is...what do I fill it up with..?? I'm thinking of trying some braid line on this reel. Something like Mccoy, Power Pro, etc. I've got a float trip scheduled this spring down the John Day river here in Oregon. Small mouths but lots of rocks and brush along the way while going down the river. What would be a good all around braid to try? I'll probably tie some fluorcarbon on as a leader.
thanks...
Don

Power Pro is popular and proven braid used in Texas waters for bass.

In my opinion I'd advise a good fluorocarbon.
I'm right fond of Seaguar InvizX, and SilverThread Fluorocarbon.
For general use I'd go with 15# InvizX, or 14# SilverThread.
For heaver use I'd go with 17# SilverThread.
The only time that I've seen a good fluoro fail was when I tied into a chain pickerel, and got the 14# Sunline Shooter that I was using cut off just a pretty as it had would have been if it had been sliced with a scalpel. Members of the genus Esox have VERY sharp teeth. Well, I did have a very nice bass bury itself in a major mass of hydrilla in Lake Hawkins last December and I ended up breaking off 12 Sunline Shooter, but that was obviously not the fault of the line.

I use power pro. However if you are fishing in the open (no brush) just get you some p-line or big game. Braid will eventually fade and it cost$$$$. If you do not need it save it for when you do. I use braid for pads, brush, stumps and grass but most of the time I use P-line, Trilene XT or big game.
