Purchased a Helix 9 about 10 months ago and a Navionics Premium card to go with it. Created an account with Navionics and registered the card right away. Tried several times, but have never been able to get any updates. Since day one I have received a message saying "Freshest Data Has Expired". Tried to call Navionics several times, but their automated phone system just hangs up on me. The "Chat" feature on their website doesn't work either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Did you do an update at the same time you registered the card?

did you make sure the lock on the side of the chip is "off"? I had problems on my chip and then noticed the mechanism to lock data was turned on.

If you take it back where you bought it along with your graph they should be able to help you. I've taken mine to Bass Pro with problems and they took care of me. One tip, when you get the problem solved you should update at least every 1-2 weeks. I waited 3 months and it took almost 3 hours to download all the updates.

When you go online to update just update the sonar charts and community edits and only highlight around the lake. Only takes a few minutes and I'm not sure you get any more by updating the whole card

The tech at BPS recommended updating everything so I did.

Only takes a few minutes and I'm not sure you get any more by updating the whole card The updates will be a little different on the Premium card, if that is what he purchased, as it is only a 2GB card and can not hold the Sonar Chart layer or the community edits layer, so he will only be doing the Nautical charts layer update so it will not take long to do. What number are you calling? Have you tried emailing? Let me know a little more info and I will see what I can do to help you out with this.

Thanks for the suggestions. I haven't looked for replies in a few days, so I'm catching up. The number I have been calling for Navionics is 800-848-5896. The automated system just hangs up on me. I Have tried emailing, but no reply. The Chat feature doesn't work either. I have a Hot Maps Premium South card that I have never been able to update.

The message usually means that your computer isn't reading the card as a valid update able card. You're not getting to the download section. Make sure your card is unlocked, and don't go to the website to log in, let the card's auto-load take you there.

Is it recommended to get the community updates? What are the advantages?

Community updates don't work on the Helix, it's a Lowrance only deal. Once you're able to update, do one full card update. Note that if your internet connection is like mine, slow (3mb/sec), you won't be able to do the update from home, it'll time out. I understand you may need to buy a Navionics Update card since yours sounds like a package deal. If you don't fish all of the area on the card, once you get one full card updated to make sure you're registered, then, go here - http://navionics.force.com/kb/articles/e...Search&pn=1Once you delete all the data on the card, the DOWNLOAD tab will appear and you can select specific lakes or a specific area or areas that you want on the card. Be sure to select both NAUTICAL CHARTS and SONAR CHARTS.

Whether I go to the Navionics site first and try to download or just plug the card in to the computer and initiate the download that way, the same message of "Freshest Data Has Expired" comes up. Card in unlocked. This card did not come with the Helix unit, it was purchased separately, also from Tackle Warehouse. Plenty of internet speed, but can't get to the point of using it to download. Frustrating since these things aren't cheap and a big selling point was the ability to update.
