I love a good drop shot set up, I like to use Berkley bottom hopper 4" or 6" worm either nose hooked or wacky, also I like putting soft plastic swim baits like minnow or shad, just nose hook em and maybe bounce them around a little more. I have seen people do an interesting set up where it was a bigger hook and would put a craw or creature bait on a drop shot...I guess give the fish something they haven't seen before and they might be more likely to bite.

NOTHING drop shots better than the original straight tail Roboworm. There are some really really good, but nothing better.

Lots of good information here.. no question Robo's catch fish.. just hate that its usually 1 and done as far as fish catching goes. I nose hook and usually the fish slings the bait before I get it in the boat. I have switched over to Zoom finesse and have good luck with Yum Houdini worms. Colors that have been good for me are Red Shad (xoom finesse) and Houdini.. which is a green with glitter. Another good bait is the Yamamoto Shad Shaped Worm. White and watermelon red flake are great colors on those baits. Wacky rigging those baits is a great way to drop shot. I use 30lb braid and about 10-12' of 12lb Invisix flouro leader.. just because I break off a lot.. saves retying leaders. The knot I used to connect the leader to the braid is an improved Albright.. great knot for joining braid to leader.

Robos are no-brainers and others are good, too, at least on the issue of durability, likely not better attracting fish though.
I would only add that I have had days where I couldn't catch them on a roboworm, and I have had good luck switching to a small 3" Keitech Easy Shiner.
My point is not to promote Keitech, but just to mention it might be a good idea to have an alternative form of bait, something that mimics a shad for example.
