I bought a RVO3 Winch in the trade forum, supposedly new. it would not cast worth a darn, removed the bearings and cleaned. I got a lot of fine metal out of bearings, lightly oiled and tried them again, still bad. I replaced with Boca bearings, now really works well. I have four other RVO's with no issues.
Has anyone had bad bearings out of the box?

anything is possible. I think for someone to wear out bearing their would be a lot of wear on outside of reel. I think it would take a lot to have metal shavings if it is due to that. just my .02

I agree about outside wear, my thoughts are someone changed out bearings before i got reel or factory defect

I would be more incline to think it is factory defect but it is just a guess. I am glad you were able to get it fixed with a upgraded bearing tho.
Good luck with it either way
