Also posted this in the Kayak section as that will be the mode of travel. Anyway, looking for advice from anyone who has been there. This weekend will be my first Caddo trip. Staying at the state park. Is this a good launch site or is there better? Also any hints on what to use to catch a pickeral??

Don't know about flies, but I would use something bright yellow and top water and fish back in the back of the bayous. Use to catch a bunch of pickerel or jackfish (local term) on Caddo. You got the mill pond to fish in the state park, but I think you would be closer to better and more water if you launched out of Uncertain. Closer to the eating places too. Don't forget to go to Big Pines Lodge for catfish. And don't forget the camera!!!!!!!

This is my favorote place on Earth. I am going to go there 1sy of May. The one thing I can say about Caddo is that daily you will say to yourself..WOW I have never see that before..

Be prepared for the unexpected becasue it will happen. Fishing is always hit or miss so be ready to fish for different species..if the bass are not biting then maybe the crappie of sand bass will be.

mudshark, Is the fishing around the state park good or do you have other areas to launch that seem better? I am really looking forward to this I have always heard this is a unreal scenic lake. If I am not catching fish I will be taking alot of pictures.

Its hard to say to be honest with you. I used to fish around the state park a lot but the lake lice got on my nerves so now i lauch and camp at Crips. Caddo has always been hit or miss for me but I have always come away with something. You can't go wrong casting something like a roadrunner on this lake. Crappie and white bass are always on the prowl. The bass fishing has left me cold most of the time but the catdishing can be great. You just have to experiment on this lake becasue it all looks fishy

Here is one good looking pickerel fly

Check over on Texas Fly Report - there is a whole gang who descend upon Caddo or closeby every year to fish for pickerel.

Thanks all, I am bringing a little of everything. I have a few flies that somewhat resemble that Robin, thanks for the picture. I will give a report next week.

white or chartruese wooly bugger, pink and white clousers... for pickerel try any large streamer... just make sure hook is ultrasharp and use heavy tippet(very sharp teeth)

John 5:24 Very truly I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

1Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

I took a lot of pictures. This was a really scenic place. We were at the state park and paddled to pine island. The houses along the way were very cool. We did not cacth alot of fish. Threw everything we had both spinning and fly rods. I did manage to catch a decent pickerel though. That was great as I never had caught one before. I will definitly go back there and would like to stay one more night.

the state park is way off the lake if you want to get closer to the actual lake turn left out of the park and go to uncertain. We launched at shady glades marina.
