I have been crappie fishing for years with jigs but have always just used one jig. Just wondering how many of you use tandem crappie jig rigs (2 or more jigs)? If so, when do you prefer each set up? Thanks

I use one jig when fishing brush and timber, 2 jigs in open water.

As many times as I hang up fishing timber I can't see using two jigs. That said, I was fishing minnows the other day and had multiple crappie chasing the one I had hooked around because the minnow had slid up the line. I think a jig above or below the minnow would work when they are doing that. I didn't try it as minnows like to tangle up too much and I hate tangles.

Tandem rigs come in handy while in the search mode. I'll tie on two different jigs trying to determine which gets more bites. I also think the tandem prompts the fish to bite when they might not otherwise. However, tandem rigs can be very frustrating when they get tangled.

I use double jigs on bridges, vertical poles, and open water and I fish a single jig when fishing brush and timber.

I use a tandem rig when I'm trying different baits and depths. I usually switch to a single rig when I find a pattern unless I start catching doubles. Nothing beats pulling them in two at a time. (Except 3 at a time.)

Tandem only means more than one jig or bait in the same near location and the same time. If there are fish having an extra jig WILL NOT effect the bite. In fact it will increase your cahnces of a bite. The more in their faces the better. Just be careful of double hook ups and line breaking.
