Doing the annual family reunion with my family(brother and sister from Nevada) the first week of November, and we decided on a house on Cypress Springs. I was thinking of taking my Dad and brother fishing, but wanted to make sure we weren't casting in vain. Any tips would be appreciated, Thanks!

Just spent the weekend there. It was a little tougher for us than it normally is in the fall. In Falls past, you could always catch good numbers. Maybe not a lot of big fish, but numbers were always there. This year was a little slower, but the average size of the fish was a little better. Biggest of the weekend went 4 1/2. Caught them all up and down the lake on flukes, t-rigs, square bills, spinnerbaits and chatterbait. None of them were dominant, but they all picked up a few here and there. It will fish a lot better if it comes up 2 feet and brings the bank grass and bank brush back into play. That said, if it drops a bit more between now and then, it could be very tough. It's about two feet low right now, which is a lot for that lake.

What's the water temps? Have you seen fish begin their fall transition? I was on Pines last weekend, and I felt the fish haven't started to move in creek channels yet.

Most the water was around 75. Sometimes a little cooler in the AM and a little warmer in the afternoon, but around 75. The fish we caught for the most part were healthy. We couldn't figure out anything consistent enough to say what they were doing. That was our challenge. So with that in mind, maybe they aren't in their full fall chow mode yet.

We fished just a few hours on Saturday and bounced from tire reef to tire reef and the bite was just off for some reason. My cousin's kids were out there on Monday and said it was great. Obviously something changed. Give it a few more weeks of cooler weather and it should be much better.
DEFMP - I bought a house out there in 2008 and just love it. if you ever want any info or advice feel free to shoot me a PM

We usually get a house on Pines, it's my brother's favorite TX lake(that he's been to), but decided this year to get a bigger house and found one on Cypress. Thanks though! I also agree, fall feast hasn't started yet, 75+ temps is a little high. Maybe the bite is off because the lake is turning over and fish are in that transition period. I'm sure it'll be good soon! Thanks for the tips and information.

Spent all last week at our place there and fished most every morning. The topwater bite finally got going the last few days. Better fish the last few days around docks on the north side. Shad and small fry everywhere!

Pines is great right now, but Cypress isn't too bad either. I hadn't fished cypress in probably 6 out 8 years so I probably fished it different than most, but did really well last week near the state park and along the dam. No real giant, biggest was maybe 4,but great numbers.

Do you have a canoe, airboat, or jet drive? Depth is ~ 3/4 to 1 1/2 foot in the heart. It also looked like sandbars surround most of them. Now, if you had a rocket cast and trusted equipment you might get it deep enough in there to catch a huge one! You know they are there.
