I a considering taking my 5 year old camping for a few days over Spring Break. If you guys could fish any lake for two days with two hours of Fort Worth, which would you choose? I have a lot of success on Cedar Creek, but it is not exactly great for camping. BTW, he can fish, is patient and has little problem staying focused for hours. Then again, he is acustom to catching fish. I was wondering about Wright Patman. If it wasn't so far, I would hit Lake O' the Pines. We are going to the coast for some reds next week too, so I can onlt spend two days. Thanks.

Wright Patman is just as far as Lake o' Pines....Lake Bridgeport is still down about 15-17 feet.

Ray Roberts might be good. Check out the Johnson Branch facility for camping and also a good crappie cove.

sounds like the same week I have planned with my 2 boys. We used to go to Fork and camp, although a little farther than you may want to go. It has also been a while since I have been there, so I am not sure how the camping is now.

You might want to consider Mineral Wells State Park. It's a small lake (700 acres) with jon boat rentals. There's good cover and lots of rocky drop offs. You can access the lake from the bank nearly all the way around too. There are several small fishing piers scattered along the camp sites and the main pier by the marina away from the boat launch area.Camp sites with electric and water are $18-20 a night. There's also great hiking trails and rock formation exploring. Look for the iron A-frame by the dam for some good crappie fishing.
Wherever you go, have fun. Life doesn't get any better than Dad and son camping and fishing together.

This is easy. If you are going to the coast, just fish Lake Fairfield since it's on the way. It has the best camping in the state and the bite is always on! thumb Good luck and let me know how it goes.

Thanks everyone. I thought about Ray Rob too. I have done very well there and caught some big crappie bass fishing in the spring. The water is low there as well. I will let you know how it goes. I will be dragging my boat to the coast already and wasn't wanting to go very far.

As far as Fairfield goes. I like the reds there, but I prefer to sight cast to mine. My buddy nailed 24 reds there yesyerday! Most were considered overs for the coast though. Big reds. I may stick with what I know and stay on Cedar Creek. I was just wanting to get away from civilization a little more, but just as soon as I set up on a lake I was not as confident on, I would be wishing for the big crappie on CC. Tough one.

I have never camped there, just drove down for the day. Is it tent friendly? I want to be able to pull my boat up w/o pulling in out at the ramp everyday. electric hookups would be good too. I could pull my trolling motor battery out and recharge it each night.

Lake Cypress SPrings.. just got back from there. Theres a state park next to Tall Tree Marina- you can beach your boat next to your tent. I can give you some spots to crappie fish.
