 What's the preferred set up for TM 2D sonar?

So like many on TFF I have a Minn Kota Fortrex TM with the built in sonar.
What are fellow fisherman's thoughts on the quality of 2D sonar from the MK vs. using an external sonar mounted to the TM such as the HDI transducer for my Lowrance HDS set up?
Do you think one offers better quality than the other?

The internal transducer picks up a ton of interference when you're on the trolling motor. I've had two different Fortrexes that both got a ton of interference when using the internal transducer. The only thing you have to worry about with the external transducers is breaking them off.

That's good advice...
I had an external set up on my previous TM and just upgraded to a Fortrex that happens to have the built in sonar.
I think I will likely move forward with the external sonar.

I used this to protect the external transducer. Works great. Little costly though.

Has anyone put a TotalScan transducer on the TM...just curious to know how they like it.

I always find out after I order something , lol. I just got one with it built in , and adding a hummingbird Helix 7. I sure hope this don't happen to me.
