My wife and are wanting to get the family involved in kayaking...we have two sons 11 and 13...we cannot afford high end and will not settle for junk either...been studying this out for a while and have recently found a native manta ray 11 for 750$ it is apparently rigged for fishing and comes with a decent paddle...will go look at it this weekend, but it is supposed to be in great condition... what do y'all think about spending this kind of money for a used 4 year old kayak when you can buy a new ascend for as much or less?

The driving force and secret desire of every bass fisherman, is to one day be a crappie fisherman............Could it be that the good Lord just smilies and looks the other way when a fisherman tells a lie?

So I started out with a used Pelican Castaway and once I knew I loved fishing from a kayak I bought the Ascend FS12T. Both of my boys 20 and 17 use the pelican on a regular basis and enjoy it. Also my daughters 15 and 12 enjoy the pelican. it is a sit on top and tracks very nice and easy. The girls can paddle it with ease but they don't like to take me FS12T out because its heavier and a lot bigger and tracks slower than the pelican. But I can say that I absolutely love my FS12T! it has plenty of room, comfortable seat, dry storage, and tracks just fine for me. It might be a bit slower than others but its fishing not a race!! LOL!! I recommend the Acend FS12T and its $599 at BP.

The design of the Native is a lot faster than the Ascend but it is not as stable. 750 seems ok for a 4 year old boat like that but it depends on rigging and accessories. If it is just the boat and a paddle I would not go more than 600.
The boat in my signature is a Manta 14 and she was fast...

BPS will take care of any defects in the Ascend if there are any. But I net the Native is a better built kayak.

Native IS top of the line, on par with Wilderness in my opinion. The Manta Ray (built by Liquid Logics for Native) is one of only a handful of kayaks I would consider for all types of waters from fresh to salt.
