My dad has 5 chestnut tree seeds he got from a friend who has one in his yard. I was under the impression that they were almost all wiped out by disease. Anyone planted one?

I typically flip trees but on occasion have been known to cast into one.

I thought it was a type of oak tree that was almost wiped out a few years ago by disease?

Looks like chestnut to me. I haven't seen one in ages. So, is it rare to find one thriving that is an older tree? Maybe blight resistant?

There have been blights that have affected oak, elm, and chestnut trees.
Jacob, it may be your tree is immune to the blight that took out most chestnut trees. Perhaps some of the guys at A&M could start saplings to see if they are indeed immune to the disease.

hey Jacob, i've got sum growing medium a bud of mine gave me...he grew Live Oaks from seed...1,000's of them...save 1 and i'll plant it n it next spring when i get there...btw, ur PM is lockt up...max topics???!!!~~~
