it depends on where the transducer is place. I had one at the bottom of the hull in the back that would have stay below the water all the time. I had a second one on the jack plate, that would come out of the water when running. The one on the bottom of the hull was good till I let the hull come out of the water then it would quit working. The one on the jack plate always quit working once I got it out of the water and on plane. just my .02

Mine is in the back of the boat, I would say less than 18 inches from the transom. Do you change your settings whenever you're on plane opposed to when just idling around?
