I have a lot of fence I need to put up and am looking at nail guns. It seems like I'm caught in the middle between a full blown framing nailer or something like a siding nailer. I have never owned a nail gun. What type of nail gun do I need? I will be shooting something in between an 1 1/2 -2 inch nails. I don't want to spend a fortune either.

What kind of nail gun do I need for this?

Anyone have what I need for sale?

If it's a one time project, rent or borrow one. Cheap nail guns are more trouble than help. If you are constantly fixing jams, it's faster to use a hammer. We borrowed a dewalt when we build dads patio cover. A contractor friend let us use it. I'm pretty sure you'd need a framing nailer. We have a couple of the finishing nailers and they shoot very skinny nails. That's not what you want. Even though they are 1.5" long they are the width of a brad.

I'm assuming you already have a compressor. If not, there's another couple hundred bucks.

I'm not sure what type of nail gun you would want but might try the pawn shops.

Go buy a framing nailer and a box of 1 1/2 galvanized ring shanks to fit it. If the nails are too long then adjust the angle that you're shooting them so that they won't come out the backside.

Just buy a cheap gun from Home Depot or Lowes because after this project, you won't use it again.

If you're going to nail the runners to the post then buy some 3" galvanized ringshanks. I prefer to screw these together though.

Those are too long for the pickets.

When I moved into my house I had about 250' of fencing to put up. At a yard sale they were selling an air stapler that came with about 20K large staples. The guy selling it was a contractor and he said staples are superior to nails and screws. I gave him $100 for the whole mess and went to work. The 600+ pickets went up pretty dang fast and easy. That was 6 years ago and not one staple or board has worked it's was out.

No nails. Use 1 5/8" deck screws with a T25 head. All you need is a battery powered down over and a couple extra batteries. Screws will last far longer than cheap [censored] nails.

That is what I love about this place. Thank you so much for the offer, but I'm wanting to do this project over a period of time. I am going to buy a gun so I can work at myliesure. Thank you so very much for the offer, it's a great thing,

Do you want my cat? I will still bring him to you.
