 Mercury XR 4 Power Trim Problem

Have a 1990 XR 4 that the trim and tilt work fine static with no force. When running down the lake under pressure it will not trim up unless I get of the gas . then I can trim up some and try again. Have checked fluid level and bypass seem OK. Need help.

It's either bad O-rings in the system but more than likely the trim pump manifold assy. is bad. You have to replace the pump assy. as a unit it is not serviceable.
Unfortunately Mercury doesn't have a check system to see where the problem lies.

I would replace the complete t&t because it could have a pressure check valve stuck. If it was a seal or O ring the unit would bleed down while setting.

You might be able change it to the 3 wire by adding the relay assembly for a 3 wire.

I have a 2 wire motor and pump. Took off of an early 225 Pro Mod Merc than customer wanted changed to a single ram trim. Will get a picture and add here.

Looking for complete assy, Design II. Not sure replacing motor and pump will take care of problem due to symptoms.
