I know this is a crappie area but I think a lot of anglers on here do more than crappie fish. My wife and I are planning a trip to Alaska in summer 08. If you have been there, tell me the details please. We are going to drive up and see the USA between Texas and Alaska. What summer months are best and why. What area of Alaska is best for the fishing, salmon, halibut, trout and anything else that bites. If you have information about the fishing in Montanna,Wyoming or any other state between Texas and Alaska please let me know. Thanks

I had Halibut yesterday! A buddy has a boat around Juno and goes up during the summer. I can put you in touch with him. E-mail me and I'll send you his #.

DLALLDER Never driven to AK, but have fished out of ketichen at a place called Waterfall Resort. Salmon, hallibut, ling cod. We flew to Ketichen then by float plane to the resort. Had a great time and caught lots of fish. we brought back over 400#. It was a trip of a life time. I fished out of juneau also, but you cannot drive to juneau, no roads. Juneau is the capitol of AK, but no roads. I have friends that have fished the Kenia and russian rivers with good trips.
"One-3Lb-er" PB= 3Lb 4 OZ Texarkana, TX Fish in Texas=Wright Patman, Lake of Pines, Caddo: Arkansas=Millwood, Greeson, Dierks, White Oak: Oklahoma=Pine Creek, Hugo.

I lived in alaska for 20 years,on the kenai peninsula. The largest king salmon in the world are in the kenai river near soldotna. The average size king in the june run is approximately 35 lbs. and the average in the july run is 50lbs. Plan your trip so you will be there from june 15th thru july 20th.The kasilof king run ( 15 miles from soldotna) peaks june 15th. You can fish from the bank for these fish , they average between 25-35lbs.I used to catch 3 to five every evening after work. The red run (sockeye) in the kenai always comes in around july 14th,and you can catch all you want between july 14th thru the 25th. You will need a guide for the kings on the kenai. The halibut fishing out of deep creek (35 miles south) is very good, also out of Homer (75 miles south). You will need a charter boat for these. If you are going for the summer be sure to spend at least two weeks driving the alcan highway, because the fishing can be very good in some of the lakes. If you are going for a shorter time consider taking the alaska ferry system.reseverations should be made in janurary over the internet. Good luck on your trip

If you are going to Alaska the first thing you need to get is a book called The Milepost. This book tells you what is located on every road in Alaska, mile by mile, and the approach roads through Canada as well. You will find this book indespensible when planning your trip.
Secondly, the Halibut fishing is good all summer. I fished out of an RV park in the town of Ninilichick which is on the Kenai peninsula. The guide was call " A Fish Hunter" and they were excellent!!
Finally, give yourself plenty of time. You have a long trip through Canada before you even get to the start of the Alaska Highway. We went up the eastern approach from Montana into Alberta and came back on the western approach through British Columbia. We did the Casiar Highway on the way home and the scenery was spectacular, but there are probably still some gravel sections.
If you get to Valdez be sure to take a tour on the Lu Lu Belle. We found the trip to be excellent and the captain/owner very knowledgable. We followed a pod of Orcas for over 30 minutes and it was incredible!!! Enjoy yourself.

Hey, Dlallder...That has been a dream of mine since childhood and I read the articles in fishing magazines. I was then stationed in Newfoundland for almost 3 years with the Navy in the late 60's and although not Alaska, a very beautiful, wild province of Canada with abundant Moose, Caribou, Salmon, Trout etc. I fished for giant bluefin tuna (see my article at Yahoo-Conception Bay Tuna, article #25. I also, thanks to the Navy, got to fly into a remote fishing camp for 5 days and spend 5 of the most memorable days of my life! Cabin, guides, boats, Moose, bear tracks, eagles, landlocked salmon and native brook trout! Unbelievable! I am still hoping to get to Alaska someday and have relatives in Seattle and may just use that as a jump off point to Alaska. Good luck on your adventure and hope you catch a whale! (Well, at least a large Chinook)..../Mike)
