Yep, the dealerships have a reputation for honesty, for sure!

I can see everything my dealer does from the waiting room......you're a momo. hammer

I only let them do an oil change if it's there for an inspection. Even then I tell them what I want put in it, if you don't they just toss in whatever is cheapest.

I started doing oil changes on our cars many years ago. Some of the quick change places really are bad. We had been using a local place and I almost had to get a breaker bar out to unscrew the oil pan bolt on one of our cars when I first started doing it myself. Crazy how tight they had put it back on. That convinced me to try to do the service stuff I could do myself.

I get a bit of a sense of accomplishment working on stuff around the house and on cars that men used to do but rarely do anymore.

I buy 4 changes at a time for 80.00 at the dealer I bought from, includes rotation and service check. they caught a bad battery at about 20,000 miles and put in a new better/bigger one.

for 20.00 a pop they can do it.

That's what I do. On my F250 6.7, I pay the dealership $200 for 4 oil changes. Most places just one is $100.

do my own. I have for several years once the price went up at the dealer. Never liked the quick change placed for my personal vehicle. When I had company cars, I did whatever was most convenient because it was not out of my pocket.

If you can find a dealer that will do 6.7 oil changes for 50 bucks a pop you are more than lucky.

I do my own brakes, oil and all the other easy stuff. I don't do clutches and suspension work anymore. Too old.

I can put quality oil and filter my diesel for parts cost and it takes less time and more convenient. I can also make a check of engine components that may require attention.

The dealer changes my Dad's 5.9 Diesel Ram for $56. He couldn't believe it.

I have a gas station across the street where I work. He still has one full service pump (doctors don't pump gas). Guy has done me right every time I take my truck or car in for routine service. He is higher than the quick service places, but honesty goes a lot further with me.

I do not want the hassle of getting rid of the old oil.

I take my waste oil to local JD dealer. He burns it for heat in the shops.

I usually do my oil changes as well. I like to know it is done right. Plenty of time for it to drain and no loose filters or plugs.

I had 5 free at dealer. First one they left an oily rag on my skid plate which dripped oil on my driveway. I thought I had a leak so took it back. About the 3rd one I noticed my tires looked a little low so I check and they had put in air per that the standard tires while I had optional tires and a supplemental door sticker that plainly started 46 PSI and not 29. Blood was just boiling while I dragged the compressor out. This is on top of the fact that I have to listen to them tell me my air filters are dirty and then try to rip me off for a OEM. I have a Fumoto valve on mine now and can just put a 5 quart jug underneath and open it. That plus a top mount filter makes it real easy.
