Mine has a welded deck...check out Gravely - super solid mower.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I have a finish mower that does a nice job behind the tractor but can only use the tractor when the ground is dry or I get ruts. Also have consumer grade ZT that has done a good job the last three years. When it goes down I will likely upgrade. The ZT is sure nice around the house and shop.

Yes a ZTR will tear your grass up if you are making tight turns. You can mow slower to keep it from doing it as bad but then what's the point of spending the extra money. Also if a ZTR breaks down on ya it is a pain to load cause you have no steering.

I just bought the Scag Tiger Cat and could not be happier with my purchase.. I really didn't need the commercial mower but I will also use it at the deer lease 3-4 times a year.

For 3/4 of an acre, nearly anything will do the trick. But I think JD is typically the worst value on the market. You pay a bunch of $ for that green and yellow paint.
I don't know how your scratch & dent buy compares to normal price. Hopefully it's a good discount and if you're happy with the purchase, then that's all that really matters anyway.

Have any of you bought or looked at anything on the website CrankyApe.com?? They always seem to have decent looking used lawn equipment including zero turns.

I bought a tractor style to pull the small boat down to the lake and the trailer for hauling off wood. But I also bought it because the guy that was mowing my yard had a Zero Turn and he ran into the side of my house a few too many times. I figured I would do a lot worse. I love mowing with it so a little more time is okay with me and it has turf tires. It is a Craftsman (really a Snapper).

I really like ZTs' but they don't make one small enough to go through my gates . So I bought a Troy-bilt TB30R rider with 30" deck single blade that fits all my gates perfect !

I have the JD 4-wheel steer and a Grasshopper ZTR. I bought the Grasshopper, because it was taking to long to mow. The Grasshopper front deck can be removed and raises up to clean and to replace the blades. The JD has about a 9 inch radius and cuts really nice. but, just to slow.

Sounds like your Grasshopper might be the right lawn tractor though! No question, the real John Deere mowers do the best job of mowing.
the chit they sell at Lowes not so much.
