Going to do an over night river trip Friday and camp on a sandbar...looks like it'll be beautiful weather with a low of 52 that night...Would y'all fool with a tent? How do y'all prefer to bed down...I'll be in my water mocassin perogue and could actually put a mat in it to sleep on...Any other advice is appreciated...Thanks

I would use a tent to keep the skeeters off. Are you launching from the Deadwood ramp?

I would use a tent to keep the skeeters off. Are you launching from the Deadwood ramp? we are putting in at hwy 79 and taking out out 2517 (deadwood)...I have a small tent I can take...was just wanting to cut as much weight as possible because there will be two guys in a canoe an two guys in kayaks...so I know I'll be slower than them... my perogue tracks fine and is easy to handle but I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up.

Did this trip before and I'd recommend a small tent. Plenty of places to set up.

Did that in 2012. Went from below the dam at Toledo Bend down about 45 miles. First 2/3 of the trip the water was clear and fishing was great. A large creek came in that was stained and after that the clear water was gone.
Its a great trip with lots of wildlife to see; eagles, hogs, deer, otters, etc...

This is going to be a dumb question, but do you leave one truck at the pick up, then drive back and drop off?

We found a local that met us at the dam and then left our truck at his place down the river. Was a little concerned about this, but it turned out fine and we paddled up to his place loaded up and were on our way.
