I have a house rented for 10/5 through 10/9, it has 5 beds and is located right on the river where the Neches meets the Sabine, there is a boat dock and a ramp close by. This is about 5 miles by river from where Champs is putting in. All of the details are on my office computer but the cost is well below what you can get a hotel for when you put two teams up and there is plenty of room to park our boats without the worries of being in a hotel parking lot. If anyone is needing a place to stay, shoot me a PM. I can give you more details tomorrow if needed.

You will be missing a good time if you don't go. The fishing should be really good in October 100 fish days with a few redfish mixed in. You should be able to catch them anyway you want. The hazards are not what everyone thinks. If you are in the main river or large bayou off the main river you are fine if you are in a shallow cut you don't run its that simple.

October truly is the best time to fish this system. I have had a number of one-man 50-fish days in October. I fished the river last SATURDAY with the pleasure boaters and jet skis and still caught 35 bass and one red. I don't know of any sand bars and hazards that would cause problems unless it's in the back of tiny drains that nobody would run in anyway.

I can catch 50 fish stay in at home and have a chance at a true giant. And very little chance of ruining my equipment.

Fishing the Sabine is just like fishing most places, you need to use common sense like you do on all bodies of water. I've run the Sabine river for over 40 years and never tore up anything. Most of that has been in 18'-20' bass boats. A lot of issues that occur are outside of the immediate Sabine river and bayous. Folks running all over the place 100 miles east and west increase the possibility of encountering an obstruction. As stated, slow down in shallow smaller areas. Don't cut corners around bends in river or bayous, stay in middle and you'll be fine.
The Sabine river itself and the bayous are loaded with bass and they will be active in the fall. Don't think there's only small bass in these waters. You guys who fish a bunch and know what they are doing will probably be rewarded with a couple of bigger fish. You will miss out on an opportunity to not only win a tournament but have a great time catching fish. Don't let the negative comments keep you away if you are considering this fishery.
