1. There are other ways to view broadcasted video. Our generation is the last to own TVs. The young whipper snappers watch everything through mirrored streams/screen capturing. They are choosing convenience over image quality 2. Games are too long / too many commercials. 3. It's the no fun league, and the youngsters want to be entertained like they are with Madden video games 4. The Goodell factor---people want him gone and a decline in viewership supports their cause 5. Teams/owners have shown disloyalty to their cities/conferences/communities 2. absolutely, they are making the game unwatchable. there is basically 5-10 min of commercials after every change of downs. 5. I think that has something to do with it. 6. fantasy football. a lot of people dont watch a game. they get on a channel that only shows highlites of all the games. maddening.

Too many penalties, reviews to make time for more commercials and no one knows what a catch is. The NFL has been a joke for a while now.

The decline of NFL popularity has been going on for some time
Off the field issues, Goodell lack of leadership, ignoring player's health due to injuries have all contributed to this
I doubt the Kaepernicks of the world have had little effect on viewership
Television has always used the playing of the national anthem as an opportunity to jam more ads into the broadcast

When the Cowboys are playing I watch the game, but don't care one bit about the other games played. On Saturday, if we are not at ours kids sporting events, I'll watch the Horns game and other games that are on in a different time slot. College football is much more interesting to me than the NFL.

I can live without watching grown men play a game with a ball. I watch it occasionally but my life doesn't revolve around it like it did when I was younger. It's just not important. I'm finding better things to do Sunday afternoon. I'm not much of a couch sitter....can't stand it actually. I go home and don't sit down until 8pm for dinner....then getting ready for bed an hour later. Sho not gonna stay up and ruin a night sleep over a game....

Several years ago I lost all interest in professional sports. It's college only for me. To me it appears that its not a game anymore for a lot of them.(and it shows) Then you have the occasional whining and crying about contracts... Dude if you play any of the 4 most popular sports you're making no less that 420k a year, stop crying, make yourself more marketable ,learn how to better manage your money or get a real job, like the rest of us. League Minimum Salaries: NHL - $550,000 NBA - $507,336 MLB - $500,000 NFL - $420,000 OK, Sorry... There's my more than likely unpopular

I think you nailed it. They are making strides in it being available other than on TV. Twitter will be live streaming games this season. The NFL has made more money under Goodell than any previous commissioner. However, there has never been more controversy and stupidity around the rules and discipline. It might not be too long before he is ousted. They can't even have a clear rule on what constitutes a catch, for crying out loud.
