I'm headed to the Brazos in a couple weeks. Gonna take my 8wt looking for striper and bigger fish (hopefully) rather than my 4wt for little stuff. Figuring on taking Clousers and bigger Woolly Buggers and such.
For those of y'all that have been fishing there lately, what's working? Flies, sizes, colors, etc.?
Thanks!

I'll be honest you will have a whole lot more fun and put a lot less to wear and tear on your arm taking the 4 weight. plain white buggers, whitebuggers buggers with a little bit of flash white Zonker's,the only thing I've used all year up there sz 6 chartuse and white clouser. Mylar poppers have been getting serious attention on the surface recently from the striper and sandbass with the cooling Weather. If you have only one split shot and you think your deep enough put on another split shot because you're probably not the fish have been feeding on the bottom except for the ones attracted to the surface with poppers. If you are not getting hung up every once in a while you're not deep enough. A full sink or sink tip line would be very handy right now. Good luck hope you do well.

Understood. You can almost always catch more fish on smaller stuff, but I want a big fish. Big rod, heavy flies, few hits.... I'm cool with it.

Seen and heard very few frogs up there this year. there are some stud lmb further down though. Big bass won't turn down a frog if they are on their regular diet or not LOL. Just don't forget giant fish hit little stuff all the time. Good luck let us know how you do i'm waiting on the Eight up there until they put the trout in and then I'm gonna try to throw flies as big as the trout.

We paddled the 20 mile below PK over labor day weekend. We caught bunches of fish mainly on white clousers. A striper, largemouth, spotted, smallie, and lots of white bass. However, nothing was very big. I did try some 4 inch deceivers and big poppers, but had way more hits smaller 2 inch clousers.

To Robert's point. Size 6 is big enough. We catch 5 to 10 pound striper and the occasional 15+ pound striper on size 6 files during the right time of year. Perhaps those aren't big enough for you, lol. The LMB haven't been all that present this year below the dam, but further down river, you can find some fun LMB to catch. Peace out.

White clousers work for me. I have 'lunch money" patterns that I'm anxious to try out there soon.
