Thinking of putting a jack plate on my 185v ranger w/150. When up on pad, it throw a big roster tail. Had it lowered one bolt hole, does better, but I beleive its down to far, but can live with it. Will a jack plate be worth the money to get it just right? How else will it help. Just don't know much about them.

You will probably need to raise the motor if anything. But a jackplate will help.

It gets outboard back to some cleaner water and will make your boat handle rough water better. Negative is that it can make your boat slower to get on plane. Good Luck

jackplates are always worth the investment. they allow for better holeshots when the prop is tuned for the boat, and will allow for better handling and top end speed.

rooster tail should be no higher than top of cowl when set up properly, go with a 6 inch since that hull has some built in setback, some offer a drag plate now ,get one of these or have someone make you one, these really help in holeshot and stop some of the backwash, start at 3.5in. below propshaft centerline and adjust up in 1/4in. increments, keep an eye on water pressure, im pretty certain you will wind up somwhere in the 3 to 3.5 range adjust until perfrmace starts to fall off, you may still have to have steve tweak your prop a little.besides getting into cleaner water it also changes the balance point on the pad, this isnt a easy prosess you may spend all day at the lake with a wrench, youve spent a lot , dont go cheap now

I put a 5 1/2" on my 175 vs with a 115 Yammi. It makes my boats perform better in all categories. The thing I like best is made my boat to feel bigger in the ride smoothness category. FYI-First put on a water pressure gauge.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.
