 GPS "fading out"

My GPS is nonfunctional about 1/3 of the time. I think it's my antenna location. Is it possible to elevate it about a foot, maybe more? Is it possible to link two antennas in parallel so that when one is sheilded (in a blind spot) that the other is receiving?
