I was just curious. Which is the best casting line for distance? Mono? Braid? Floro?

Braid will always cast the best, do to no memory. Power pro, jbraid, seaguar smackdown Mono is good with certain brands. Trilene xl, hi seas copylmer fluro coated line, stren orignal etc. Flurocarbon is tough at times most will become stiff and brittle in the winter but with kvd line conditioner it will tone that down abit. I reccomend seagaur red label, invisx, and hiseas fluro. But it all comes down to what reel you are using. Spinning gear i go with braid and the monosi reccomended. If your wanting to use fluro use it as a leader not a mainline. If your using baitcasters just go with braod fluro or the cheap berkley biggame(best bang for the buck imo) Hope this helps.

World record is with mono....Until that gets broken with braid mono is king Prob cause braid isn't allowed. Do you have a source or link of this competition you speak of?

Your google broke? Look I know this makes a lot of people huffy puffy. But the facts are mono is more smooth than braid on rod eyes. If your an average caster your better off with braid. But if using efficient techniques mono will out perform braid hands down every time. Believe it or not 30 lb test mono set the record...AND bait caster is better than spinning reel. I know you don't believe me..

there is no rule stating braid is not legal only that a certian diameter must be met. 150 gram .31mm and 125gram .28mm

"When casting in the field for distance competition, I would want to cast mono. If you cast the same diameter mono and braid, I wholeheartedly feel that the mono would cast better. Better = further in this case.
I was reading from strictly a fishing standpoint of comparing test rating. It will be hard to convince anyone that 20lb mono will cast further then 20lb braid in general all else being equal. Now, if you change your comparisons to line diameter instead of lb test, sure mono will outcast braid.
Looking at the diameter charts of Power Pro, it says 200lb power pro is .030 diameter. (based on a website advertisement) Even at that size, it is too small for 150gram class if I am not mistaken. I do not know anyone that would throw or could even justify throwing 200lb power pro in a competition expecting it to cast further then the equivalent diameter mono.
Comparing lb test rating braid will prevail. Comparing line diameter mono will prevail. Depending on which line property is being choosen to measure for comparison, either answer could be right."
I totally agree on the statement above.

I am currently studying this as well Moon. I am attempting to learn lure fishing. Im exited about it.One thing that shocked me was the fact that a larger diameter line comes off the reel easier than smaller. At least until a certain point. Im not sure what diameter of line his 30 lb test mono was but it sure was a slap in the face to learn after buying a spinning combo and filling with 12 lb test. I still have my bait casters though and I use both.
Keep em tight!

For casting from a spinning reel it's hard to beat Berkley Nanofil for distance. Another line that casts very far from spinning and casting is Tuff-line Supercast although it is almost as thick as mono and opaque so you'll need a leader. A good thing about these lines are you can cast 50 yards and still feel strikes much better than mono due to no stretch, and both lines are much smoother than most braids.
