I think not being able to fish the wall keeps a lot of folks away. Cant explain the lack of bank fisherman. But in terms of economics, If people aren't paying to get in, then they won't be restocking! Won't have an effect on today's fishing but certainly will on tomorrow's. The stocking is done by TPWD and doesn't have anything to do with fees collected by CPS Energy. When TPWD allocates resources to decide what and where to stock a lot of things are considered. To my knowledge entry and launch fees are not on the list. As long as there is public access and the stocking program is generating lots of angler hours, TPWD will keep stocking. Sounds to me like CPS Energy is trying to increase their bottom line by increasing fees so those are the folks to hassle about dopey after 8 policies and increased fees. Calaveras Lake Fees and hours

Calaveras Lake Fees and hours I disagree but could be wrong. This is not a public fishing area, it is a privately owned resource. If they don't stock the fish there would be no revenue generated to charge an entry fee. It's a good question to ponder and I'll ask this week when I'm out there.

It is considered a public fishing lake. TP&W stocks it according to biologists recommendations. Just like all other power plant lakes.

If you think the fees you pay actually generate real revenue, then you are smoking the wrong pipe. I worked there 24 years ago when it was the San Antonio River Authority. We charged $3 per person. The fees offset some of the expenses, but not even close in paying for all expenses. We are talking about salaries for the park rangers, insurance, upkeep of the grounds and the ramps, upkeep of the docks & fishing piers, etc. The lake is owned by City Public Service. Every year CPS discussed shutting both lakes down from public usage. If you don't think it could happen, just look at what happened in North Texas with North Lake. TXU didn't want to deal with the cities so they finally shut down lake usage completely. Enjoy the resource, you never know how much longer you may have it.

They already shut down the "WALL" that folks fished off of since the lake was built back in the late sixties. Shutting down the lake is probably going to happen if and when Thousand Trails decides it can't make any money.

If Thousand trails doesn't renew their lease, it could get interesting. Remember years ago when Braunig was closed to the public ? Someone discovered that the property was owned by the public, that got the ball rolling & it wasn't long until it became a public fishing lake.

I've noticed there hasn't been any improvements done to the park and I was out there Monday (Labor Day) and they hadn't even mowed the grass around any of the campsites. A holiday weekend and they didn't even mow around the campsites...Inexcusable, but they don't have a problem raising their prices! I also noted that there were only a few campers and probably 3/4 of their campsites open. Prices taking their toll! If I were a betting man I'd say they won't renew the lease.

I would say you are right Jimbo. When TT took over operation of the park, they had big ideas. Very little ever got done. I would have to guess that their lease is winding down & won't be renewed. More then likely it would go back to SARA We might then see a chain across the entrance...a very sad day for the fisherman & SA.

Well it had been a while since I made the run to Calavares, saw first hand the sad state that it's in. Might have been 4 trailers on the deep ramp lot when I came back in. The fishing that I've experienced in years past are long gone. I won't be making another trip back.
