Bastrop still has plenty of grass but Fayette doesn't. However, I haven't been to Bastrop since June, so maybe I'm wrong. There was plenty left when I was there last.

Oh, you mean that super harsh winter we had last year when none of our perennial plants went dormant? The same one when we only had a few instances of temperatures below freezing?

Nope, He is talking about the winter of 2014. That article is over a year old (Feb 2015). Either way, I do not remember the 2014 winter being bad either.

I remember fishing a tournament on LBJ that winter - in February - where we had to scrape ice off the deck before launching

I believe it was the coldest winter on record

In any case, all the grass was already gone well before that winter

This is what I saw happen, and I was there.

They stocked the grass carp because there hadn't been enough water in Travis to safely draw down Austin as they typically have done every few years. They were still letting regular releases out of Travis though, keeping the upper end of the lake cool (62-68 degrees year round). The grass carp don't like the cold water, so they decimated the grass on the lower end but didn't touch much up north. They then grossly overstocked in the hope that some would make it upstream and thin it out a little. Very soon after this, Travis got so low that they stopped releasing water and the water temps on Austin shot up. Within months all the grass was gone.

That explains what happened to me. I almost always fish up north and I got into a disagreement a while ago with another guy about no grass on Austin. Now there really is no grass but there are, at least for the time being, some nice fish. Find rocks and chances are you'll find fish.

Considering I live across the street from LA I had to switch from bass fishing to carp just because of this, yet I'm hoping with LT rising to 100% people will start driving on lake Travis more and then twpd might let vegatation grow again

I did not start fishing Conroe until about 10 years ago. At that time grass and other vegetation was plentiful. What I can tell you now is there is little to no grass. It is well documented both on TFF and other boards about the re-introduction of grass carp into Conroe.

Seven Coves Bass Club has done work to re-establish native vegetation, hats off to them. But as to anyone getting credit for making it right, I tend to disagree that TP&W did anything other than what the homeowners and river authority wanted.

36,000 Carp in a 1,599 acre lake? That is 22+ per acre, Holy ####!!

Ok hate to be that guy, but I just laughed out loud at the ludicrousness of anyone approving that plan. We truly are employing some idiots with our tax dollars...

That grass was gone faster than you could mow it.... seriously. They have literally dredged the lake of anything they can eat. It's sad cause Austin was putting out 40-45lb stringers in actual tournaments. Now 20lbs is a bag if you are lucky enough to stumble across one of the skinny toads still swimming around.

Ok....I'm not a carp guy. What do they eat once the grasses are gone? Do they begin to die off?
