We caught 13 mackeral using chrome 1oz jigs today at Bob hall pier in Corpus Christi. Usually they don’t get here until May but for some reason they are way ahead of their anticipated arrival. The biggest was 28 inches and the average was around 20. Beautiful weather and mackeral in the ice chest, doesn’t get better than that.

Its a white meet with not a lot of red, so its not fishy tasting at all. Are you talking about the same fish I am? THEY WERE THERE AGAIN TODAY: I didnt go but my neighbor did. He even had better luck that I did yesterday. If your in the Corpus area you have to go.

Ok, I cleaned all the smacks and left no skin on. What is the best way to cook in ya'lls opinion. I have nothing but white meat. Filled 6 quart zip lock bags of filets/chunks.

I grill them. Make sure to use foil since the skin on one side is off. Garlic, lemon, pepper, butter and seasoned salt make a good season.

Cool. I love grilled fish. I have always fried it along with trout. The only time have really got into the smacks was when trout fishing the surf, and caught a few mixed in with trout. They were good like that too. I will be headed back to the pier on sat. Maybe I will see you there.

They are the prefered fish for making Ceviche down in Baja Mexico. Heres a Ceviche Recipe thats close. Substitute the Mahi-Mahi with Spanish Mack, drop the Coconut and your' set. http://www.recipehound.com/Recipes/Recipes2/5667.htmlExcellant eating with a cold beer on the side.

We were catching them on almost anything. Yes we were fishing from the pier. They were biting all day from daybreak until I left at 2pm. I was told they have been there every since that day.

Sounds like a heck of a time and it does seem a little early. I will be down next week to get my fill of the fun and hopefully some nice trout to boot. You have an idea as to what the water temperature is?

The water temp. was about 64. The water warmed early this year, so they came in a bit early. As you know its all about water temp. They have no clue as to what month it is lol.
