I am convinced there is some sort of PREFERRED JURRIORS LIST on file at the courthouse in Denton.
Moved to Denton Co in 1991. Wasn't long I was called for Jury Duty for Denton Co. So drove to Denton to be assigned to a local court in THE COLONY. Told to come back tomorrow (The Colony) the next morning. The drive Trophy Club to the Colony SUCKS in rush hour. But I did it. Some kid was busted for scratching off in the town limit and demanded a Jury trial. Then he didn't show up for trial. So we all sat till noon only to find out he paid the fine the day before. Grrrrrrrr....
Then seems like every year from then on I was selected, and had to drive back to Denton from Trophy Club only to be assigned to report to Flower Mound or in 2 instances report to Trophy Club.
My neighbors never once got called, nor did my wife!!!!
So finally on my next summons to appear in Denton I was again selected to serve- on a child molesting charge trial.
While sitting in the box waiting for the judge to get around to the voir dire process the folks around us were whispering what a scum bag that the guy must be because of his wrinkled suite and sweat stains under his arm pits.... only to find out HE was the prosecuting atty.
So sitting there whispering to each other found out that of the folks waiting with me- that over 1/4 of them also got called regularly. And others it was their 1st time ever having grown up in that county.
So now I was irritated, and wanted out.... but had watched the judge make those who had some lame excuse look like fools in front of everyone, so I knew to be careful with what I said.
So when the questioning began I listened and made notes of what got folks struck, and what the attorneys wanted to hear.
When it got to me and the poorly dressed/unkept attorney got to me he asked if-
I was able to listen to the arguments and come up with a logical decision.... I answered in my best south Alabama drawl "Well he wouldn't be here (the defendant) if he hadn't been up to something now would he!!!"
OMG you wudda thought I had farted out loud, the place erupted with laughter and the judge thanked me for tainting the entire jury pool. We all got excused.... and as I was leaving I asked the judge where to pick up my check. The judge wasn't happy with me at all, told me to see the clerks office.
I have not been called since and that was 15 yrs ago.
really???
