Spent 4 days on a murder trial years ago. Was really interesting. Don't have to go anymore because of special needs stepson

I've received two Fed Jury duty summons this year. The first one I was called off the day before. The second one I showed up, went through a security check more intrusive than any airport, and went through a brief orientation that lasted all of 5 minutes. The clerk said we need 24 to stay and we have 26 that showed up. When I call your name come get your juror number. If you are one of the two that don't get your name called you are free to leave. We will mail your check to you and you will be removed from the call list for 2 years. By some miracle I was not called and got the day off and got paid $90 for my time.

Did you try signing up online in advance? Usually you don't have to g and that completes your jury service.

Yep. Signed up the day after I got it.

Had to go here in Graham. Had to be there at 9:00am about 40 or so of us sat around on our butts for nearly 3 hours before we were called into the court room. They told they had reached a plea agreement and thanked us for coming. When I got my check in the mail it was for $3.64 About a $1.20 an hour the way I see it.

Our criminal justice system is in rough shape, no doubt about it. But it's still the best in the world. And a large part of the checks and balances built into it is the concept of a jury of one's peers. Not a jury of morons too stupid to lie their way out of it.

Wouldn't it be ironic if one of the people who refuses to participate in the system needed an intelligent jury to obtain justice, and all he got was the losers......

I mind it. I'm not a morning person. I do gain a little steam after lunch.

Went last month to crowley in Dallas. Called my number, sat in front of courtroom for about 45 minutes, everyone plead and and we got to go home. There were still people waiting in the main jury room that had to stay banana home before noon.

I didn't mind going when I was working cuz I got 8 hours pay, I begged to get on a long trial! Now that I am retired, leave my arse alone!

I took some pre-law classes and ended up majoring in criminal justice. It truly amazes me we are still using the "jury of your peers" system. Our legal system is so clogged up, corrupt, and back logged it ain't funny. I feel we need professional jurors. I feel jurors with a high level of knowledge of law, whether it be criminal, civil, family, constitutional, would be more effective in the roles of juror and not easily swayed by the gamesmanship of slick lawyers. They would also be able to hear more cases and get some relief on the dockets. The entire legal system needs overhauling IMO. The jury system would be a good place to start.

That was your mistake. The last 2 times I have signed up 2 days before I was supposed to report, and both times they emailed me saying I wasn't needed. You did it too early, and the spots hadn't filled up yet.

Been called twice. 1st time, I forgot about it, and called the day after, they asked what # was on my invitation, I told her (it was like 220 something), she said not to worry about it, since they only went through 100 or so. The 2nd time, I walked into the courthouse, a bailiff took my invitation, said a plea deal had been reached, and I turned around and went home. Got a check in the mail a week later.
