"The shad have been spawning all over the lake. During practice, I got on a crankbait pattern and relied on it coming into the tournament. I was throwing an Excalibur Fat Free Guppy in a shad pattern on the North end at a secondary point and caught a couple early on it. That pattern diminished, and I had to scramble. The wind picked up and the shallow water warmed so I headed south. I went behind the marinas and fished along the walkways. I knew when the water warmed up the big fish would get there. It was a real funny bite, they didn't want a moving bait. I started dead sticking a watermelon red Senko with a swivel 1 foot above the hook.
