Heading down in the morning for the week. Haven't been since mid March, was hoping to get a little insight and clue in on how things are going. Any reports help, thanks guys!

Boat or boatless? SonOne & I did a Thursday evening to dark drive up & wade fish off Mustang Island. SO caught around 12 trout and one 19.95" red, I caught about the same number trout, maybe a bit more, and also a 18"+ red. Targeting reds but the trout were stacked. We kept SO's 22" & my 19" trout for fish tacos. Threw back a number of trout that probably would have (& would have) measured and lost a couple serious trout, including a legit upper 20 6 lb+ trout, spit the hook 15' from me. Very nice trout any time and especially in August. Again we were looking for reds, but the trout were beating the reds to the bait. Learned a long time ago not to leave a hot bite, so we were weeding through the trout especially after that mamma trout. Never really got around to finding the reds and the plan was to find a STAR red.

Nice to hear some positivity! Haha will be boat less. I've got a buddy who lives on the island and we are supposed to take his boat out but that's all up to his work schedule. So really just looking to chase whatever is in the mood to bite. I like you would have done the same, stay on the hot bite! Live bait, cut, or artificial??

I like you would have done the same, stay on the hot bite! Live bait, cut, or artificial?? Free-lined live shrimp. Moving off a hot bite cost me and a buddy $1000+ in one tournament back in late 90's. 2nd place by 1.5 lbs if I recall correctly. The bum still uses it as a trump card.

Wilsons cut area always has a few reds in it this time of year. I like the section south of the cut and you can walk in there. It's a long wade but you dont have to get anywhere fast. There's been tailers in the barrow cut just south of the road, I've caught fish in the pipeline cuts that run across the flat, caught fish in trout and reds in the flat near the croaker hole, and also the far south area of that lagoon. Also caught a few flounder working the current in the boat hole.
good luck. Used to fish that area a lot.
